About

After working together for three years at F’s Steak House, Yim and his father, Shum, decided to start their own restaurant on the north side of Evansville. Canton Inn started off as a small, one-dining room restaurant, tucked in the North Park shopping center behind Kuester’s hardware store (where CVS is now located). It opened in December 1984, and after several years, the neighboring shop was renovated as a second dining room. Once the renovations were complete, Yim decided to add a buffet (the first Chinese buffet in Evansville) for those who wanted a little more variety than the usual “menu-only” option. After many years of hard work and continual growth in business, Yim decided it was time to expand Canton Inn yet again. In May of 2000, the new Canton Inn opened its doors to the public at its new location, 947 North Park Drive (across the parking lot from the old location that was next to the Pie Pan).

Canton Inn has won the Courier & Press’ Reader’s Choice Award for Best Chinese Restaurant over thirteen years in a row.
